To Mr. Kramden- What makes the Southerners so special is that they reinact the Civil War in which they lost to us, Yankees or the North. How could you reinact something in which you lost? Doesn't make any sense and that's why the Southerns are very special in my book. Put the emphasis on "special".

Those of us that are from groups indigenous to the Southeast have a really rich heritage in the area. If you look into the Mound Builders (sometimes called Mississippian) period, it's really neat. We had some of the first democracies on the planet in the Southeastern nations.

The European settlers who came to Appalachia brought a lot of great stuff from Ireland and Scotland. The music, legends, and all others sorts of things.

I think Yankees are jealous because the majority of them are new arrivals (second and third generation) in this country, whereas the average white Southeastern person has 200 to 300 years in the area. We Native people have 10,000 or more years. As a result, I think we're more confident in who we are than they are. We don't have the ethnic enclaves that Connecticut has, rather people just live wherever. We didn't have a time when if you were Polish and not Italian, you'd get beaten up if you walked down the wrong street (happened often in Waterbury, CT, where I work.) Being a Cherokee, I can't tell the difference between the two, as they're both just "yonega," or white people, to us.

ok dude i'm from the south and YOU ARE MAKING US LOOK BAD BY ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE THIS ONE! we are no different or better than anyone else in the country. although we are freindlier than most that i have seen we are all just normal people who go to work, take care of our families and try to enjoy life the same as anyone else does.don't get me wrong i love the south. i certainly don't think we are worse but i don't feel special just because of the region i was born in either. and calling them "yankees" c'mon! the civil war ended 152 years ago and no one talks like that anymore ANYWHERE!

edit: and to all of the people who said we are less educated PHUCK YOU! william falkner, eudora welty, eli whitney, john grisham, bret farve, they were all from the south! and by the way i have a phd in biochemical engineering. good luck with your GED tests losers!

They are closer to Mother Earth, if they are descendants of the original 13 colonies.
If they are really Carpetbaggers in name only and not true Southerners, they smell like the rest of the interlopers.

So many different things, our culture of hospitality and kindness, our cooking, our music, our general way of life, and our accents. Not to mention, us Southern girls are so damn good looking, too!

Life moves a little slower down there and people tend to be less educated in the " bible belt " than anywhere else in the country. So maybe their minds have not been expanded to all the cruelties and diversity this country has to offer. It has a reputation of being god fearing and that leads to better morals and just all around more hospitable people.

I'm from New Orleans, and it's not because we're a "*** dump."

It's because we're more laid back than most others in this country.

.....

For the most part. Although there are a lot of people moving in who are changing that.

You southerners are ever so friendly and oh so warm hearted. I also love your accent. Never change.

The only thing that makes them special is them telling each other that they are special.... Sorry I don't think someone is special just because they come from a different place then me.
