I am 12 going on 13, and I have little acting experience. I sing in dance in my room in front of my mirror, and also, I act out lines in shows and movies I know the lines to. Please don't think I am in this for the fame! It's nothing like that. I really want to have the experience and to live my dream and get a little line like in one of those Sketchers commercials where the kids say 1 line or not even one and show off the shoes? I used to only want it for fame, but I've grown out of that, I am really determined. But, my Mom thinks I have no chance to even audition because I live like 8 hours away from NYC and across country from LA. But, I know my family. If I had a big once-in-a-liftime chance, they'd move for me, or at least rent a house there and leave my house vacant for some time. Please, could nobody say anything dream-crushing? I get very emotional about this stuff because It's such a big dream for me. This is Macey, and once again, this is NOT for fame!!!! It's for the passion

Ah, the blind leading the blind.

Darlin' , I am sorry, but there is no chance for you to be on Disney Channel or any other of your dream channels. Those that are have been at it a long time all ready, have relatives in the business, or very push stage mothers. You have none of those things. And your family is not going to move across the whole country on a maybe. Unless you are filthy rich. Further more why would they cast you with no experience when they have their choice of the best actors in the world? Macey, if you still have a passion for acting in three years, and you are in all the school plays and show some ability at it, then you might think about having a career. Right now is a bit early.

If its for the passion then i say go for it! start with something small that your parents can agree with. At your age your school should probably have some plays that they do. Try out for those. Get involved with your community theatre if you have one. Also once you get into highschool there will be even more opprotunities for you. There is more to acting than Disney Channel. DC is almost impossible to get into. You need a huge amount of experience, a head shot a resume and of course the big one... THE AGENT. I wouldn't do dc because there is hardly a chance for anyone to get in unless they are really talented and have a lot of money. Lets take small steps. why don't we bring your acting and singing and dancing out of your room and on to the stage? maybe in your area there would be an organization for the performing arts? just look around and see what resources are open to you.

If it's really for the passion you will do it for free in school and in kid's theater groups. Your mother is right. You can't get an agent in NYC if you don't live there. No agent, no audition. No audition, no "once in a lifetime opportunity." You can act all you want to. The dream of doing it for a living happens for very few. Even for those who have been at it twice as long as you have been alive. If you want to persue it as a career when you get older you can. For now, just enjoy being a kid. It's fun to have a dream. It's foolish to waste you energy on things that simply will not happen. Learn the difference now and you'll have a better life than most.

Frankly speaking, you have no acting experience whatsoever. And your English needs a bit of polish. But, I don't know. Maybe you're as good as you say you are.
If you get things going yourself, I think your mom would be more serious about it. Make sure your studies don't suffer. It would make your dream less appealing to your mom.
Why don't you make a couple of videos of yourself acting out a few scenes of a play and post it on youtube.com. If it gets good reviews, then make a few more and build up a good reputation.
If that goes well, go to a professional photography studio and tell them you want to make a portfolio to show to an acting agent. They'll take several photos of you and choose the best ones. It will cost you, but if you're really determined, you better save up now.
Check out acting agencies in New York and schedule an appointment to see if they can work with you. Be ready with your portfolio of pictures and your youtube videos. Make sure to tell them that your goal is working for Disney.
they might get you small gigs at first, but if you do really well, you'd be living your dream.
good luck.

Hi Macey,

I have a few pages on my website for new, aspiring actors that might help you. First go to the blog and read the post entitled: How To Convince My Parents...
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acs-blog.html .

You will also find a post about gettting onto Disney Channel.

Then if you want, sign up for the free ebook called What It Takes To Become An Actor.

That should get you off to a good start.

Good luck!

get some more experience first. Saying the lines during a show and singing in your room isn't enough experience. Act in a school or private play production. Once you can get lead role, you're ready to try for bigger things. Also ask you mom for singing lessons. Be on the look out for local auditions for advertisements.

Sorry girl, you don't have a question anywhere up there. I didn't think my son would be able to do acting as he was very shy. But so far, within months he was able to progress (through acting classes). Actually what led me to actually believe he could do it was through a commercial he had gotten. It was his first audition and he got the role. Its not always so easy though, it is hard work. He recently auditioned for something for Disney.

We have been working hard and I'd say that I spend at least 40 hours if not more on working on stuff for him whether its online, auditions, etc. Please have your parents be prepared for that.

MANY of our favorite stars came from Disney starting with that first Mickey Mouse Club;
Starting with Annette Funicello to Justin Timberlake and Cheetah Girls.
Never let go of your dream!

This same question is asked everyday. You can read the answers you get here and look up the answers a billlllllion people got when they asked the same question.
Do school plays and community theater and see if you really like it. That's my advice.
