What a peaceful thing that would be. You dont have to know about politicians and all that.
But on a practical note. It will be horrible think about we becoming blind suddenly. Its the same

A study produced by The State Education Agency has found that 36% of Washington D.C. residents are functionally illiterate. People who are functionally illiterate have some ability to read and write, but not enough to be able to fully function in everyday life. They have difficulty with crucial tasks such as filling out job applications, reading maps, understanding bus schedules, reading newspaper articles, etc.
In this day and age, in a country where everyone gets a free and appropriate public education, it is your own fault if you are illiterate.

I've seen the results of adult illiteracy. And sometimes it leads to injury and death. Imagine the effects of someone working as a hotel janitor mixing clorox and ammonia together in a bucket. Nearly 40 other people overcome by the fumes and he winds up in intensive care. And all because he could not read the warning labels on the product's container.
Now, here's the really scary part. 23% of adult, native-educated Americans can't read and write!

No , I simply cannot ! It is one of the things we take for granted , like breathing , and only if it stops or something , it is brought home to us . Or , one should be able to visualise such a situation . Even one where there is no reading material , scares me !
Our lives are so intertwined with the need to read , with labels
price-tags , currency--denominations , road - signs , etc .
Yes , of course , we can survive without the ability , as do millions still in developing countries , but what quality of life do
you think we would have ? Living like animals ......
And , there would have been no computers , or Internet , if no one could read or write .

No I couldn't imagine it, I have a friend that I thought could not read and I'd always be nice because he'd ask me to read for him even though he insisted he could read. Here he needed glasses! But to not be able to read or write would be like being in a jail.
