Sorry, guys, but evenemergency vehicles are supposed to stop/slow down at red lights.
If they go thru a light without stopping, they are liable, just like you and me.
That said, if you see an Emergency vehicle of any kind, pullover to shoulder if possible, and stay out of the way!
I have ridden in the back of ambulances many times [ AF nurse ] and people try to RACE you to the light! If they were in an ambulance, they would be very upset to be DOA.

In reality, no one can go through a red light. Even emergency vehicles are subject to them. However, with their emergency equipment on, other drivers are supposed to yeild to them. If the emergency vehicle ran a red light and hit a car, the driver of the emergency vehicle would be at fault.

Laws change. It does not matter if some law was passed in the past, it can be changed.
In many states, it is legal to STOP at a stop sign, red light, whatever, then when it is safe to go, or turn, then go, even though the red light is still on.
In most states, emergency vehicles focus on safe passage, trumping red lights.

Emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, fire trucks, rescue squads and police cars are allowed to legally go through red lights. Drivers are required by law to give them clearance in traffic during an emergency situation.
