A sprain will swell up quickly and create pain from the swelling. Put ice packs around it to reduce the swelling and that should help.
A break will not swell that much quickly, but you will feel pain from the break, especially when you put pressure on it.
If it is broken, you should go to the doctor and get it set with a cast. You can heal the break in about 10 or 11 days once it is set by following this:
Go to: www.healthline.cc (not .com) and order the following:
Nucleotides -- take 15 of these per day (5 at each meal)
Bone and Joint --- take 3 of these with each meal
Coral Complex --- take 4 in the morning and 4 at night.
You and your doctor will be amazed at how quickly your bone will heal. Most broken bones take about 6 weeks or more to heal, but if you speed up the immune system with the above things, it heals in about 2/3 of the time.
I recommend this to people and when they do it, they are totally amazed at the results. It really works.
Try to avoid taking any pain pills if you can. They just slow the process and damage your liver.
good luck to you

Usually you can tell the difference between a sprain and a break by the swelling.
A break usually will not swell. If you swell up right away, it is usually a sprain.
That being said, it's always best to see a doctor. If it's a sprain, you'll just be told to elevate it, and stay off of it for a while. Either way, you still want to "walk it out" at some point to rebuild strength and range of motion. Don't stay off of it for a year, for when you get back on it, it's going to be weak as heck.

you could have a fractured Bone or it could be broken,Sounds to me since there is swelling and it is black and Blue that something is Broken. You need to go have a ex ray done,There is no guarantee how long you will have to wait to see your Family Dr.The ER should not be busy so you might get in there a Bit easier.Elevate your foot and don't put any pressure on it.

Go to the ER, hon. That swelling and discoloration mean there has been bleeding in the tissue under the skin. You don't want all the pressure pressing on a nerve and possibly causing permanent damage. You should have put ice on it immediately and elevated it, not walked on it. Go to the ER now.

I would see a Dr. as soon as possible because you may have done more than break a bone. The foot contains more bones than the rest of the body all together. It is not uncommon to break bones in the foot but it sounds as though it may be more serious.

Get to a hospital quick. If it is broken, they will have to re-break it if the bone begins to heel. It happened to me with a broken ankle. The pain was worse than the original injury.

Sounds broken. I had a broken foot. I was in a cast for three months. Really, have a cast put on it so it can start to mend properly. If you don't, you may have a limp and pain all of your life. Really, you don't want that!! Trust me.

Either way, you need to have it looked at and treated. The longer you wait, the more you risk further injury and more difficult pain management issues. Go to the ER .

it could be a really bad sprain. unless you fell off from two stories high and landed on your foot, i doubt its broken. but going to the doctor ASAP is a good idea to prevent further injury.
