Nothing special about Mars tonight or any other night.
Mars is visible most nights of the year.
It was one of the planets known and observed by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians (without telescopes or binoculars).
Its only not visible when its orbit and ours makes is appear close to or behind the sun.

Right now, Mars rises in the east just after midnight or so local time. And by December, Mars will rise a few hours after sunset and will be quite bright in the southern sky for most of the night.

As large as the full moon? So you're another one that got that hoax email that was completely wrong when it first started getting around in 2003. And its just as wrong and completely impossible now.
How could an object that never gets closer than 35 MILLION miles look that large - Mars would have to be as close as 750,000 miles to look as large as the moon.
Not gonna happen in our lifetimes.

I see from your additional comments that you now know the story is false. Let that be a lesson to you not to believe everything you hear. Especially if it seems highly unusual.
