Hi!
This is very common! When the baby starts growing and pressing on things it can get a bit uncomfortable!
Try some chamomile tea with a tablespoon of honey in it each morning/evening. Honey is a natural lubricant and will help to clean out the intestines-yogurt also helps put good bacteria in the intestines and will help with elimination- and drink plenty of water!
I would not be too dependent on laxatives or stool softeners unless you really need them-once and a while-the body might get too used to having that "help" and then you will have more problems on top of that!
Check with your doctor first before you take any medication even if it is over the counter-hope you feel better!

I'm 22.5 weeks pregnant and at about 12 weeks i got bad constipation what i found effective was having a mug of warm water with a table spoon of honey stirred in every afternoon.
I have been constipation free for over 2 months now it worked within days.
Good luck and congratulations.

TOTALLY normal!! I loved cereal, so eat a bowl every day of high-fiber cereal. Be creative, and eat fresh veggies and fruits, the best way you can (yes, it's hard to eat well when you're pregnant!). Avoid highly refined sugary things and white breads. But avoid laxatives!!
I think some prenatal vitamins also have a stool softener in them to help with this common problem.

I GOT YOUR ANSWER! Ok there is a prenatal vitamin called Citri-Cal Prenatal RX. (Its not citricel powder stuff this is a prescription prenatal vitamin). They do make it as generic now too. it has a stool softener IN IT!! I stopped having problems when i started usuing it and recommended it to all my friends. They loved it. Ask your doctor about it. In the meantime eat all-bran cereal, fiber-one, watermelon (natural laxitive), kashi, lots of water(not so fun when u already pee 20 times a day!), raisins, prunes, dried apricots. I always recommend using www.babycenter.com for all new moms and moms to be. Its free and SOOOOO informative! Good Luck!

If you are looking for natural stool softners.... Plums or prune juice work great. Black licorice or raisins also work to get things moving.
Be sure you are eating enough fiber and gettting enough fluids. Constipation is a normal side effect of being pregnant. Don't worry it will pass.
Good Luck!

You should be asking your ob/gyn this question. My suggestion is to get more fiber into your diet & drink lots of water. Graham crackers are great for helping with constipation. If you like prune juice, drink a glass of it daily. (the colder it is, the better) Eat lots of fruit & green leafy veggies too.

Pre-natal vitamins can be very constipating. Go to the pharmacy and get some OTC stool softeners. If this doesn't help, ask you doctor about changing your pre-natals. Different kinds can be less constipating.
