I'm suppose to be helping with an indoor Hillbilly Hoedown and I'm needing different ideas for a costume other than overalls. Any ideas for indoor decorations, games and prizes would be great.
Thank you!

Hey!
I am an East Tennessee girl and know actual Hillbillies. As for decorations --
Corn stalks
Corn cobs that are dried
Sawdust on the floors
"Whiskey" or "Moonshine" jugs
Bales of hay or straw
Stuffed animals -- that look like a real Possum, ground hog, or raccoon
Pretend Shotguns

As for games --
There is one where you tie a string around an apple and hang it in the door and then try to catch it with your mouth...harder than it sounds...Think of it like bobbing for apples without water.

Musical chairs to some good Bluegrass music.

A Cake Walk!!! This is really popular down here....You put numbers on the floor in a circle and as people walk around the numbers -- usually in a circle -- when the music stops the person on the number pulled from a hat wins a homemade cake.

Prizes could be as nice or goofy as you would want. Anything thing from gag gift prizes like a "Sears catalog" or "Corn Cobs", A Jeff Foxworthy Book or video, or on the expensive end hand carved wooden characters or animals, homemade baskets, quilts or pottery.

Hope I helped...if you need an explanation on any of what I just put down contact me. I would be happy to help.
Peace.

Costume: Straw hat, Daisy Duke shorts, Red/White checkered halter top, Capri pants with holes, Suspenders...

Decorations: The only things I can think of is hay bales and maybe a clothesline with ragged clothing on them...

Prizes: Billy Bob Teeth...

Games: Watermelon seed spitting contest, apple bobbing, potato sack races...

Most hillbillies I've seen wear faded shirts, usually flannel or checkered, and blue jeans. Barefoot or big combat boots; and the women have pigtails in their hair. Men have beards, beat-up hats and highwater pants.
