Totally and completely false. If you freeze your goldfish it will be dead, as in dead forever.

The story you more then likely heard is about fish in home ponds during the winter the person telling you this story either left some out or had no idea what they were talking about....If the pond is more then 3ft deep you can keep your fish in the pond during the winter...of course it is all a chance I have done it twice and one year I was left with all dead fish and the next they were all alive...Do NOT freeze your tank fish while on vacation.....go out buy an auto feeder of some kind there are big ones that sit out of your tank dropping food in, and there are others that actually dissolve in the tank and can be used for up to 10 days

False. But can kinda bring the water to a certain temp that will kinda slow the fish down. like hibernation. BUT THATS CRUEL i think. just buy the food that is released slowly into the water if you are going on a vacation...

If you freeze the fish, all of its cells will burst and it will die a horrible death. If however, you keep the fish at about 50F for two or three weeks-it doesn't need to eat, it won't use much oxygen, and it won't produce much ammonia.
