Color choices depend on what you are trying to accomplish.

Do you want your viewer to get excited and grabed by the nose and command their attention
The you want opposites on the color wheel. Orange, yellow, red against purple or green or blue. Warm HOT colors tend to excite people. An office where you are expected to get your needs taken care of an LEAVE. will normally be made uncomfortable with the use of color

Do you want your viewer to be soothed and carested and courted then you want something soothing. A moncromatic selections of coordinating blues and greens. In an office where you are expected to wait patiently until you turn then soothing colors to help you relax will be employed.

Thats why billboards are bright and bold with lots of contrast. And the picture above you sofa will tend to be soothing and peaceful (at least in most home)

Once you find you colors then search for the codes.

Lots of luck
