Since the 1950's, there isn't a typical American lifestyle. The 1960's brought in communal living and things never really went back to normal after that. In America although same sex marriage is not yet approved, families can be formed around other permutations besides a mom and dad. Two dads, two moms, single parents can be just as nurturing as what used to be typical. Many couples chose not even to have children but to have a more adult lifestyle.

This is kind of a weird question....I don't think you can truly define a typical American lifestyle. Our country is so diverse and multi tiered that if you wanted to narrow it down to characteristics, well, they would be pretty general. Plus, you are going to get tons of different people putting their input in on what THEY think is the typical American lifestyle. The opinion of a New Yorker is going to be quite a bit different from someone from California.
It is true that in America we have more freedom's and rights than most nations across the globe. We are a privileged group of people.
I hope you get a variety of wonderful answers that will help you narrow down a better answer to your question!

Nothing typical about living in this country. Heck, there's no typical life style for any of the states. Folks in one part of a state are gonna live a different lifestyle from folks in another part.

How can anyone describe that for a country that is 3,000 miles across, has 50 states with different climates and different geographical features and immigrants from virtually every country in the world? Is what is typical in Hawaii the same as what is typical in Alaska? The question really cannot be answered. Pax - C
