Christmas holidays start from the middle of November and go through to mid February. It depends on which course you are taking and what exams you have at the end of semester.

Decemeber is summer season in New Zealand; in case you want to bypass there on a similar time as its wintry climate for the snow, June/July/August/September would be the best. The inns in teh south island are the extra advantageous ones; like queenstown, wanaka.
