I was born there. and no it is amazing for Samhain. The celebration is pretty much all month and they block off access streets to Derby Street for the party on Halloween. Essex street is filled with vendors and there are many groups of tourists that are there. It is soooo much fun. I used to dress up my little dog, but she is too old now. and the shops are also open late. Laurie sometimes holds a morning ritual in front of her store on the Wharf.

I went with my husband, but, not at Halloween. I still had a great time tho. There were historic houses you could visit, lectures on witch trials. It may have changed since I was there as it was in 1975 that I went. I found it fascinating and would like to go back at Halloween.

If you want to have fun without any thought of Samhain, Salem is the place. The Witches I met were all in it for the buck.
