The problem with charity is that is is highly inefficient, ineffective, and often not available. Also, it offers no long-term solutions for existing problems. Once the money is spent, the people receiving it are back to where they started. Nobody is talking about forced redistribution of wealth. What they are talking about is not keeping all the wealth concentrated in the hands of a privileged few like what we see in most 3rd World countries today. For example, I've heard Mexico has more billionaires than any other country in world yet the vast majority of the people there live in total poverty. Does that seem right?

If by CONS, you mean conservatives, then you're sadly mistaken. Conservatives believe in charity, just not in government wealth redistribution. Government using force to take from one person and give to another does not amount to charity. It is simply a legalized form of robbery.

No government program ever brought a person out of poverty. Personal freedom, determination, and the ability to strive for a better life do. Your example of Mexico is completely false.

Mexico does not have the most billionaires in the world. The United States does, of course.

A vast majority of Mexicans do not live in poverty. A large minority does, however, 40%.

That means 60% of Mexicans have been pulled out of poverty by the efforts of these billionaire entrepreneurs. If you use government force to starting righting this "wrong" and you destroy their incentive to create wealth and jobs through investment. The result will be simply more Mexicans living in poverty.

No government program has ever brought a person out of poverty.
