Call him on the phone and say sorry if you need to. If he is the one who should say sorry, don't wait for him to say that. Just ask if he could join you for lunch.

First I commend you for the action you want to take. Try This: Just call him and talk to him like nothing has ever happened. In your normal tone of voice, say Dad---how are things going? After his reply, followup with, :how about having lunch with me on a certain day and time? I just thought it was time we had lunch together. If he says ok, then do not proceed with the conversation. Close it off, and then follow through. Good luck.

Pick up the phone and just ask. In this situation, there's no way to beat around the bush and if you ask, you can only get one of two answers. But - no matter the answer, you did what you thought was right and the rest is up to him.
