Do you honestly think Venus could get close enough to Earth to look like a moon when it usually just looks like a star? Have some common sense.

The orbit of Venus lies within the orbit of the Earth. That means it's physically impossible for Venus to be in the sky at 2:30 AM.

Whenever Venus makes a close approach to Earth, it is directly between the Earth and the Sun. In other words, The Sun and Venus would be close together in the sky. Even if Venus were somehow close enough to appear as big as the moon, you wouldn't see it; the brightness of the Sun would make it invisible. Just like the Moon is invisible during a new moon.

NOOOOO!!!! This is a widely circulated rumor, although it usually involves Mars.

In a very publicized event, Mars came the closest to the earth in 60,000 years on August 27, 2003. Some people said it would appear there were "two moons" however, that is only if you have a high powered telescope.

For some reason, the event keeps circulating by email ever since then around August 27 of every year.

The Earth has one moon, right? So how could there be 2 moons in the sky? That really doesn't make any sense to you, does it?

I mean, how could that make any sense? If we suddenly were going to have 2 moons in the sky, don't you think it would have been all over the news, CNN, special reports, the papers, the Internet, science magazines, Discovery channel...?

We won't have 2 moons in the sky, we never have had 2 moons in the sky, and unless something cosmic happens we won't have 2 moons in the sky in the future either.

No. It's not going to happen. Venus is too far away to ever appear the size of the moon.

This is a false internet rumor about Mars being so close to the earth that it will be as big as the moon.
Use your brain...do you really think ANY planet could come so close to the earth that it would be as big as the moon?
FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE
