An evil genie appears and places you in a dungeon with spiked retracting walls. You will surely die in a matter of minutes. In front of you is a red button.

The genie explains that pressing the button will release you from this situation and save your life. But there is a 1% risk that while saving your life, this button will also cause the death of 100 children.

Would you press the button?

NO! I would never put anyone else at risk for my life! Especially children.

Yes, I'd press the button...by my being alive I might be able to save 100 children and I couldn't do it if I were dead. But by being an evil genie he's probably lying...! If I were an evil genie that's what I'd do!

yes i would because if those spikes hit me there is a 100% chance i would die but if i pressed the button there is always a 99% chance that the children could survive.

It's only 1%. It's highly unlikely 100 kids will die anyways...
