Mesolithic came in between palaeolithic and neolithic.

Mesolithic hunting tools are generally composite, using many small flakes. This is different from one-piece palaeolithic tools.

Neolithic tools are different because they were used much less for hunting and much more for the new lifestyle of farming.

It was a change in technology, generally from flaked to polished implements but there were other associated changes, such as the development of agriculture. This also meant the development of permanent settlements.
