1/2" pipe clamps are more than enough for cabinet and furniture making. You don't need to buy galvanized. It won't add any strength and could stain your projects. I make cabinets for a living, and the only time I break out my 3/4" clamps is when I run out of 1/2".

In large measure it depends on the span the clamp has to engage and the pressure you apply. You could use 2 inch pipe in a wide span and still have the stock BOW. 1/2 inch galvanized is an acceptable standard for pipe clamps, especially using 1 x material. You can always set a piece of 1 x under the pipe, over the stock and then tighten the clamp.

Studies have shown that kids who attend school, public or private, with other kids, have better socialization skills.

A few of both will be best. You'll probably be buying some other types too. I have about 20 pairs of all kinds.
