I have a friend who is considering becoming a sperm donor, but he's uncomfortable with the idea of his sperm being indiscriminately distributed (is that the correct term?). He doesn't want just anyone who is not capable of raising a child receiving his donation. Do any of you know how this works? Thanks.

That may vary from facility to facility. The good ones screen the recipients for psychological and physical health and for their emotional maturity. Have him ask the company he is interested in what their policies are.

Sorry but the sperm donation is made just with the purpose to donate semen to any couple having fertility problems and donor can't and oughtn't to know where and who will benefit from his sperm!
That is as the blood or the organs donation.... they are at one's disposal when necessary. By such mind your friend can't be a donor!
