I don't think it has any purpouse whatsoever. Just another popularity contest, because that's what America is all about. Just another marketing gimmick, because baseball is slowly becoming all about the money.

baseball has always been all about the money... why was babe ruth sold?.. all about the money...
but yeah.. its a really corny gimmick .. just like the red sox nation membership card... and morons bought that so why not? hell people flocked to buy the sod from the field after the world series.. these morons will buy anything with a red sox logo on it...
I must admit they get me too... if I'm in a grocery store or what ever and there's a rack with red sox crap on it I always stop and check it out... i have beer coozies that are jerseys and an entering fenway hat and a dice k t shirt that i got at grocery stores.. which is lame of me... I admit..
a jets fan tried to get under my skin when the jets beat the pats.. and I told him... I don't care man.. football is just a game... its not baseball... its not the red sox...
we do have warped values... I saw fever pitch 5 times.. I hate that movie.. it sucks.. i can't stand jimmy fallon he is a poser and a tool.. I hate chick flicks.. but I saw that movie 5 times... fenway was in that movie... the red sox were in that movie... I've done that with the buckner play... from fever pitch...
we will have a president of red sox nation which is dumb... and tacky ... but it was tacky to begin with... I'm not paying 25 bucks or whatever for a membership card for something that is my birth right... its tattooed on my heart anyway...
but...
personally if I was a member I'd vote for Remy... but really I don't care but Remy is my favorite thing about the Red Sox... half the time he and Don are talking about the hotel or the taxi ride or whatever restaurant ... or joking around and they aren't ever boring.. even if the white sox are the most boring team ever!
I don't want sam horn cause that's part of my red sox poser test.. you have to know who sam horn is to be a red sox fan.. and you have to know who lou merloni is too.

It's a silly ploy, but totally harmless. You have to buy a card that says you are a member of Red Sox Nation. No one over age 14 can be taking this seriously. You are a Red Sox fan if you shell out serious bucks to go to games and if you watch them on NESN and listen to them on WRKO.
