Is such a project too complicated? Any tips or resources?

What you are describing is called a double casement window with LR handing. I suggest you go to Home Depot or Lowes and take a look at one. If there are none on display they can at least show you one from the catalog. They all have rather complicated hinge mechanisms plus a center bar between the two sections. The insect screen in inside rather than outside the glass.

If you don't like that approach then you could always just construct a set of miniature french doors with no center bar. You will need an astrugal with weather stripping where they meet in the center.

Certainly a valid notion, but my question would be; why not SHOP for that?

CASEMENT windows; perhaps an archaic type are exactly what you mention or consider.

Since you don't mention things such as size; purpose; budget; ability; etc; I suspect it's pretty difficult to most accurately answer your Q.

By the way, and with all due respect; have you ever heard the phrase "Build it and they will come" It's a metaphor for what you envision. The best answer to "Is it possible?" is "Certainly!" The question to follow that might include such things as How MUCH are you willing to pay,,,etc.

If you have experience and have a good shop full of good tools, and if you know the difference between plain sawn and quarter sawn lumber, then go for it. If you dont know what quarter sawn is, then I suggest that you go out and have the window made by a professional shop. Windows are a critical part of your building's envelope and need to keep out moisture and weather. They need to function properly, and as such, need to be properly made. I would not recommend this as a do-it-yourself project.

Buy one, it's called a casement. Use cremone bolts for the hardware. Since you are clueless, have it done so it doesn't come out halfassed.
