If it's anything like Missouri, nothing. You still get the summons, you still have to go to court.

You forfeit your right to pay the ticket out of court and the officer might seize your driver's license to secure your appearance in court.

Here, any traffic offense is arrestable. Summonses get issued as a courtesy; it saves the officer the time, and the offender the trouble associated with a full arrest; signing the summons is a promise to appear in court...if you refuse to make that promise, then the officer could use his discretion to arrest you.

As others have said, in some states, the cop will arrest you.

Just sign the goddamned thing. You aren't admitting guilt. You signature just denotes that you actually have been given the ticket.

Or are you one of those "Sovereign Citizens" who thinks that using a ZIP code makes you into a slave of the Federal government?

For those reading this, there are nutballs who think this is true.

The Officer will write refused on it and turn it in the same as the others. In some states you refusing to sign is reason to suspend your license.

Normally they take you to jail. Your signature is just a promise to appear (like it says on the ticket)

You go to jail. Your signature is a promise to appear in lieu of being arrested and required to post a bond.

They still give it to you and you still have to pay it. Just because you don't want to sign it does not mean you are not at fault or exempt from the ticket.
