Bestiality is perverted. The sexual partner is incapable of consent, and unmatched to the human in genitalia, emotion, purpose of the act, and any number of other things which makes such an act abusive and cruel.

I believe the question has been placed here under Philosophy for leaving prejudices and emotions behind and look at the proposition objectively... instead majority of answers have unjustly attributed motives or inclinations to the asker.... I am disappointed with such answerers.. they may better belong to some other section.
In my view, there have been instances of cross-breeding among similar species of animals or birds, naturally as well as induced by intelligent human beings. The proposition does not look impossible to me under acute and extreme circumstances of say, deprivation or mental disorder... or even as an experiment since human beings are capable of anything for the sake of curiosity for the unknown even as they are afraid.
It is a disgusting and repulsive thought from several points of view as sufficiently covered in the other answers, but it is neither impossible nor unthinkable.... and who knows whether some such cross-breeding may not produce another species that has intelligence and physical sturdiness combined in a more optimal way than it is presently with us humans?

It is not OK for people to have sex with animals, source most of the people on the planet (would assume its 95%+)
The why not is it is taboo and therefore out of what society is willing to accept, source its illegal in "civilized" societies!

For starters, the animal is not going to enjoy it, so it could be construed as rape.
If you can't find a human to have sex with you, you can always, um, take matters into your own hands.
