Ok, darlin - mom of 4 kids here...
Always separate colors from whites. We make 3 piles - whites, light colors and dark colors (black, jeans, red, purples). Remember, the lighter the color, the hotter the water. So, use hot for whites, warm for light colors and cold for dark colors. It's getting simpler, right?
Always use detergent with laundry. I like liquids, but get whatever you want and follow directions. You don't have to use fabric softener. It softens clothes and makes them smell good. Think of it like hair conditioner, only for clothes.
Always use dryer sheets in the dryer. I buy the really cheap ones from Walmart, but it takes 2 to do a load. They will keep you from walking around with static cling all the time. (It's a bad hair look for everyone!)
Hope that helps!

I'd appreciate if you wouldn't use text spelling, it makes your questions hard to read. You aren't being charged by the letter, spell it out. Thank you.
Now your question. Softeners put a coating around the individual fibers to lessen the electrical charge that can develop. They may also have artifical brighters to make your clothes appear cleaner.
You separate the colors so if a colored garment doesn't have a well set color, it won't run into your whites. Also it's a good idea to separate your clothes by how much abuse they can take in the washer........delicates need short gentle cycles so they should not be washed with jeans and towels.
As to what to use.......if you have high mineral water, don't use washing soap. It reacts with the minerals leaving a "crud" on the clothes. Most washing compounds are not soaps but rather detergents which can be used in all waters.
Actually just plain detergent is probably best for most of your laundry. The additives may or may not be good for your wash and the more additives in the detergent, the more likely you'll get a buildup over time.
Back to the high mineral water (which much of the country has unless your water comes from snow melt....say like some Colorado cities) you may find using chlorine bleach to whiten dull t-shirts may actually turn them a grey yellow. It's the iron in the water reacting with the chlorine. I'm not saying avoid chlorine bleach if you feel you need it, just realize it's not for all parts of the country or for every wash.
Also the harder your water the more likely you'll get "detergent crud" on your darks if you use powdered detergent. Using liquids seems to solve that problem.....well, it did for me.
Stain treatment: ah, here you may have to do a little web research. Some stains come out easily, others are a real pain in the......ahmen. Pretreaters such as Shout work on most, but not all stains. Best to read up on stain removal.
If you have a stain, make certain it is gone before you put the clothes in the dryer! Heat will permanently set many stains making them impossible to remove.
As for using dryer sheets to make your clothes fluffy (and removing the static cling), be careful. The chemicals in the sheets can actually interfere with the dryer lint screen, making it impossible for air to come through. So not only should you remove the lint, but once or twice a year take the screen to the sink an scrub it soap and a brush to get the dryer sheet chemicals off the metal.
Finally for your "intimates" or very delicates, not only should you use gentle cycle but also cold water and let them air dry. Detergent and heat destroys elastic.
OK, real finally........most detergents work in cold, warm and hot water, you don't need special stuff.
Enough!

Can def. help you with laundry ?'s.Okay fabric softner makes fabrics, including towels sheets, or clothing softer. If you are using a coin laundramat you have to pay attension and wait until the light comes on that tells you it's on the rinse cycle, that's when you add the softner BUT you can put it into a fabric softner ball and close it as well that is made by downey I think. Some home washing machines have a special fabric softner despenser just put a capful in it and add detergent as normal and your done. If this is all too much just use dryer sheets. Ofcourse clothing and other items should be sorted and washed according to color and fabric as well.
Seperate pastels from dark and bright colors. For example you do not want to wash hot pink, red, or orange with jeans or a mint green blouse. Bright colors need their own load. Another helpful tidbit is to use color catcher sheets made by shout. Just add in with every bright color load it keeps dyes from transfering from one item to the next. Just put it in after the detegent is added and put in clothes they are wonderful!

fabric softener keeps the clothes soft and keeps them from getting static cling, laundry detergent is the soap itself which cleans them fabric softener comes in sheets in the dryer, OR the liquid fabric softener goes in the rinse cycle

Fabric softener prevents static cling in your clothes and makes them soft. You can use liquid in the washer (you will find a place in the washer usually next to where you put the soap in and it will be marked.) You could use dryer sheets instead and just throw it in the dryer with your wet clothes.

it incredibly is his accountability to do his own dang laundry, and if he's barely staying a week then he shouldn't want his sheets washed. Neither you or your mom ought to sense obligated to do those issues. He ought to quite be courteously asking your mom if it incredibly is effective that he makes use of the washer/dryer, and to then use it promptly and get his issues out of ways so as that he does not interrupt different enjoyed ones chores. Is your cousin no longer conscious that he's staying at somebody's homestead and not a lodge? once you reside at somebody's homestead, you ought to you need to be a stable homestead centred visitor. which skill sparkling up after your self, pitch in the place you are able to, and take a inspect to no longer create extra artwork to your host once you are able to ward off it. If I had a house centred visitor like your cousin, they had under no circumstances be invited decrease back! do no longer do his laundry, do no longer sparkling up his messes, and if he leaves his crap mendacity around then positioned it on his mattress so he can cope with it. Gawd, what a jerk!

ok so this should make it fairly easy,
do jeans and hard fabrics together with half a cup of detergent, and for your shirts and more precious items use fabric softener because it keeps them from fading and loosing the elasticity of the fabric. i wouldn't use too much of it though, you don't want to smell like 'fresh mountains' lol. good luck, make sure you read the labels... oh and if you can afford it , use the cleaners, it's more environmentally friendly! good luck girl
