I just bought a used 29 gallon Hex aquarium, but I'm unsure what is wrong with the filter. The tube blows bubbles until I put it about 6 inches from the bottom, and then it stops blowing out bubbles. So by the time I put it in the bottom, no bubbles are coming out of the tube. Is my motor just not strong enough? please help.

You've diagnosed the problem already - the depth of the water is too much for your current airpump to be able to move the air (against the water pressure) all the way to the bottom of the tank.

You can get a larger airpump, or a powerhead that gives even better circulation. If you get a powerhead, I would suggest a reversible model, then use it in reverse to blow water down through the tube. This keeps crud from building up under the filter plate, so you won't have to pull it up every few months and clean out the buildup. It also keeps anaerobic areas from forming which could trap pockets of hydrogen sulfide gas (bad news for your fish if these are released).

The problem might me that your motor is the same level or lower as the bottom of the tank. If you could raise the pump higher. Try it.
