I am upgrading from my standard HP motherboard which is nothing special. Would this be a good one to upgrade too or would you spend a lot more $$ and get something different?

That is a good one, especially from ASUS. You only need something different if you are looking at tweaking your set up for maximum performance or considering SLI in the future.

Also, if you are fond of cable management inside the PC, the ATX connector of this board is not ideally positioned.

Its nothing amazing but it is definitely a good board. It will be way better than the junk HP gave you.

I'd suggest getting one that can support quad-cores, man. Also, one with more PCI slots would be a good idea too. Otherwise, it's mediocre.
