I have an area set off already and found a huge ant hill right in the middle of it. I was planning on putting in some compost, maybe some peat moss or something also, into the dirt as well. I don't want to spray with pesticides or anything if it will hurt my flowers later on. Thanks!

If they're fire ants (which judging by your zone they might be), use some Over 'n Out on your lawn. That will not only take care of the ant problem, it should do so without affecting the plant life.

yes -- read the label -- and most likey it should not be a problem if is just regular household spray. I have sprayed lots of places for ants up against the side of my house , and have plants growing there now -- no problem.

I agree, read the label. But if it's perennials you plan to plant and not vegetables I see absolutely no problem. Ant poisons don't contain anything that will harm plants.
