You're absolutely right. There are many Democrats in Congress - House and Senate - who actually served in the military. Senator John Kerry (Navy) and Representative John Murtha (Marines) immediately come to mind, as does former Senator Max Cleland (who lost 3 limbs in Vietnam). Also, it's interesting to me that those most hawkish about war never served in the military themselves. This includes not just the politicians, but their mouthpieces in the right-wing media.

I'm a moderate as I think most people are in reality. I know some people take there marching orders from far right or far left leaders but I think most people make there own decisions and some decisions fall over the political spectrum. I am sick of all groups trying to sterotype each other. If someone does not have my point of view that does not mean they love this country any more or less than I do. As far as the military goes, it is made up of all types of people. All are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so we can argue these points we're sharing with one another. Let's keep the focus on our leaders and keep them accountable and stop degrading and insulting each other.

I seriously doubt anyone who ever served in the Armed Forces would describe someone who served in the Air National Guard as "hiding". Especially if that person was flying jet fighters.

Just my opinion.

when an extremely high percentage of you party hate the military, tear down and disrespect the military, and refuse to serve in the military... that may be where the accurate stereotype comes from.

Funny how libs always think the President's service was somehow not good enough. Was Clinton just sight seeing in Canada.... that yellow coward.

Bush sent what the Generals asked for... Clinton sent soldiers in to try and cover up his perverted sexual escapades in the White House.

But hey... thanks for your service!

From what I see on YA both the Democrats and Republicans spend a lot of time stereotyping each other.

I never met one single Liberal during my service in the Military.
Maybe a couple join every few years.
But why?????
Liberals despise the Military.

In Clinton's letter to Holmes, he states how he "loathes the military".
Spoken like a true Liberal Draft-Dodging Coward.

You got one compadre here! I'm from near Berkely and San Francisco and went to a small christian college in east tennessee, 4.5 years I had to defend my views and ideas. In all fairness, we are an easy target, a conservative viewpoint is pretty standard and almost always based on religion, but though of us who live up to the liberal ideas of America's founding fathers are divided into camps based on whatever individual beliefs we hold.
One thing about conservatives though, every one that I met and ended up arguing with has some liberal ideas and values... whether it be their stance of sexual choice, education, drinking, drugs, abortion, etc.... My roommate there (a staunch republican catholic conservative he says) smoke and drank and had premarital sex in addition to a gambling problem... he never could win those arguments.

The radical cons on this board are either stupid kids taking their political opinions from mommy and daddy or introverted cowards who couldn't look another person in the eyes on the street. The only power they have is to name call...the truth of the matter is that conservatism is similar to communism and fascism and totalitarianism...

I'm glad to hear you speak out. I know that there are liberals in the military but their opinions are too often dismissed by the conservative talking heads.

Independent. Air Force Vet.

Neo-cons claim they have a patent on serving the country. Yet they always choose leaders that only serve themselves and their corporate contributors.
