I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book, and a "reader's choice" list of favorite books.

Most of these have a little romance, but especially "A Spell for Chameleon", in which the main character is motivated by proving his status to his fiancé.

I hope this helps.

An exciting book is Sabriel which is the first in its series. It is by Garth Nix. It has a new kind of magic that is deeper than just a wand and a word. (harry potter) it has a little bit of romance and is full to the brim with action, adventure, fantasy,sci-fi, mystery and its just a great book that will keep you reading for hours. It is currently my favorite series and i like the fact that the adrenaline doesnt stop till the end and it leaves you wanting more. So try it out and see what you think.

I would recommend "The Wee Free Men" by Terry Pratchett. Humorous fantasy with some chills, set in the Discworld universe. Also, for some older fantasy reading, go for "The Chronicles of Prydain." Five novels by Lloyd Alexander, heavily based on Welsh mythology. Good, quick reads which get deeper as you move from book to book.

As a younger adolescent, I read The Catcher in the Rye. Its themes may be a bit adult, but since I had read it, my perspective of people and social heirchy in general is greatly enhanced. Or, then again, you can read Fahrenheight 451. It's also a very classic story of how the future bears no fruit unless people realize that our world is changing and we need to understand it. This one has less adult themes, but still ask before reading it.

Neither of these are fantasy, nor romance, but are very good books to make you think.

Hope this helps.

No I am sorry all the books I read you would hate. I just finished the book "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. It was about her growing up in Somalia and being a Muslim. Then it talks about how she no longer believes in the Muslim Religion and why. I thought it was a good book and I think anyone interested in Women's rights should read it. I usually read history books and things like that so sorry I don't know of any real good books for young adults when it comes to fiction. Try looking into like true crimes and books like that. They are kinda scary and teach you a little about the people who commit such acts. It is scary just to know that there are people out there like that I think. Best of luck!! =)

I highly recommend Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It includes everything that you have specified and more...and it just fantastic. It's one of my all-time favourite young adult books too. You can get a sample of the first chapter at www.stepheniemeyer.com and click on "Twilight"
