It is less important for your record than it was in high school, but you need to have something other than your classes to do or you will go crazy studying. At some schools, especially those which focus on social justice, or if you are going into a field in which you need to show leadership, it may be important to support your education with extracurricular activities.

I really do not think it is that important. Other people seem to and I am sure they may know more than I do, but ...I don't see how it could be that important.
I think if one is extremely interested in something - say basketball for example, and basketball is a big part of this persons life, then yes, basketball should be an extracurricular activity for this person. He / she can get exercise, do a much loved activity and meet new people. But to just get involved in an activity just to say that one is involved in something is a big waste of time that could be otherwise spent.

Like most people have already said, it's less important than in high school, but it's nice to have something there for your resume after college; especially if it pertains to your major/future career. Colleges want to see as many extracurriculars as possible AND see excellent grades, whereas employers mainly want to see good grades and maybe a few extras.
For instance, I majored in Music Education in college, and I wanted to teach high school band. Instead of playing in just one group each semester (which was required), I played in at least two each semester, and during my last two years, I coached drumlines at local high schools to hone my teaching chops. Both of those things were helpful to have on my resume. When I got my first job, my principal commented on how impressive it was to see that I performed more than I was required to, as well as begun teaching before I had graduated.
Of course, never pile anything on top of your plate that will prevent you from keeping your grades up. If you feel that you've put your hand into too many activities, it's imperative that you balance your grades, social life, and then extracurricular activities in that order. Many times, social life and activities collide, which is a great thing, so that's always something to look for.
Good luck!!!

As a college student who spent the first 3 years un-involved, I'd say it's very important. Not only will you meet new people that you can develop great relationships with, but it's an overall good experience. Depending on what you choose to do, it can also help you out on your resume.
From personal experience, I'd say get as involved as you can. There's more ways to meet people than to go out "drinking"...And from the clubs I've joined so far, I've met many more people with the same interests as me. I regret not joining this extraciricular activities sooner.

the extra curricular are significant, by using fact they tutor which you're properly rounded. some colleges even frown on individuals with the super GPA without extracurricular activities. The good judgment is that a reliable scholar has mastered the gadget of taking assessments and getting grades, however the properly rounded individual has the abilities to attain existence... colleges want to have alumni that are effectual! On appropriate of that in case you're in contact in extra curriculars you are able to ought to artwork confusing, yet you have activities that make you chuffed. there is not any experience in depriving your self of exciting activities in basic terms for a college. Oh, and don't be afraid to danger the AP training... taking "cake" training truthfully does look undesirable, and maximum schools will comprehend the indisputable fact which you have challenged your self.

Somewhat but I don't think it's all that important. I think it depends on what field you are going into. Maybe internships are more important than extracurriculars.
