...one of your contacts/fans answers your question and you feel the need to pick someone else's answer as the best answer. I really try to be fair and pick the one who deserves the best answer. If I can't come to a decision, I put the question to vote. However, I feel that if I don't pick my contact's/fan's answer as best they may get mad at me for it.
What should I do?

I don't pay attention to the name at first, I just look for the best answer.

(First of all I just want to say that you don't even need to waste your time commenting back to that idiot "YourFriend" who wrote that nasty comment. He's immature and the best way to handle ignorant people like that is the totally ignore their comment. I can tell you are better than that so don't even feel the need to defend yourself or let it bother you. Someone as low life as that ~ isn't worth your time or recognition!)
That being said ... I don't become someone's "contact" so they'll pick me for a best answer. I become their contact because either their profile is interesting or they ask/answer with humor or intelligence. The rules of Q &A are for you to chose the answer that you think is best ... period. That is THE whole point. If someone gets mad at you over that they don't deserve to be your contact.
The one thing that does bother me though is when my contacts don't pick me because they've already picked one of mine recently. I've had them write me emails and say, "Hey, yours was really the best answer, but I had to pick someone else to be "fair"? What's fair about that? Or they'll say ... "You have so many best answers already I am going to pick someone else." This isn't a popularity contest or rotate your friends for best answers. It is pick the BEST answer period! Just like Miss Jessica above said she picks her best friend for that reason only. That is wrong (which is why she got so many thumbs down). The only reason I have a problem with it is because it is defeating the whole point of Q & A.
Whoever gives the best answer should get it regardless of whether or not they're you're contact and/or friend or how many times you've picked their answer. You don't need to explain that to anyone. And if for some reason you don't pick the one who deserved it ~ whatever you do ~ don't email them to explain it or try to apologize. That's pointless.

People get mad it's a part of life, and if you feel that someone other than your fan give you an better answer than so be it, one person does not know everything and other may have more knowledge about the topic so no you should not feel guilty.

No, I just choose the best answer, regardless if they're one of my contacts/fans, or even a real friend. Your contacts/fans/friends shouldn't be mad at you but rather realize that they actually have to post a good answer if they want to get best answer.

You should just pick the best answer from all the answers.
It doesn't matter if your contacts/fans get mad at you, it's not like they're going to shoot you. And it's just a site, no need to get upset about something stupid like best answers.

Simply choose the best answer! They would understand that it is nothing personal, and you simply just want to choose the best answer. If they get mad at you for that, then you probably need to start looking for more contacts/fans... :)

I had the same exact problem today and my wife told me what I am telling you. You should pick the best answer and not based on one of your contacts. I would not worry if you are honest and fair they will respect you for that. If they don't they are not worthy of being your contact.

The point is to pick the answer that is best or in some cases helps you out the most.
If they get mad then it's their fault they didnt give a good enough answer.

You shouldn't feel guilty about that you are doing the right thing by choosen the answer that is best for you, thats the whole thing about this!!! And of course if you can't decide on a best answer then put it for vote.

I do feel really bad.. However, I would still pick an answer that I like best.... My contacts/fans are amazing.. They'd understand.

I can relate...lol I wouldnt feel bad. Everyone on here knows that just because you dont get chosen as the best answer your comments may at the very least help. If anyone gets upset with you just be sure to let them know that you still value their answers and it wasnt personal. good luck.
