maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago, one of my black mollies started getting big, so i thought she was pregnant. also, male (or other) fish were constantly swimming right under her. but when i checked on her this week, she was really really BIG and her eyes seemed swollen and cloudy. i assumed she was going to give birth soon, but instead she died about a day after i checked on her and noticed the symptoms. did she have a disease or was she really pregnant?

i dont agree. fish have tons of eggs, so it would seem it would get pregnant with eggs.. and she was bloated! its not nessasaraly because of overfeeding.. it could be acid reflexes.

I'm actually right now treating a molly just because of the same exact symptoms, fortunately i catched it early enough

The big eyes are called popeye, and usually is the first stage of dropsy, that means your fish most likely had fins sticking out and several other symptoms

In the future, as soon as you see your fish getting bigger eyes, start treating them right away with Maracyn TC or Furanase for at least 5-10 days as directet

it usually gets worse before it gets better, but it helps

Hope that helps
good luck

She was possibly full of eggs and that's why the male fish was swimming along with her. If you watched closely, you probably would have noticed him bumping or nudging her. That was his way of trying to get her to lay her eggs somewhere that he could fertilize them. If she was indeed full of eggs and could not lay them, she could have actually died from that. I have had a Koi and Goldfish pond for about 6 years and have witnessed that same thing happen to some of my female fish. There is also a fish disease called 'dropsy' that causes severe swelling, but that's all I know about that. Could look it up on the web.

at present purchase a waiting made cement tank fill it with water, keep it uncovered to direct image voltaic. as quickly because of the fact the fish supplies beginning, take a spoon to get the toddlers(do no longer use your hand or fishnet),flow to the waiting cement tank.Make the cement tank to get some hues no longer direct image voltaic(verify the water isn't too warm ,if its so wait till it turns into to accepted temperature). Now on your cement tank some algae could have stepped forward, which would be a feed on your babies,to boot feed them with boiled egg yolk.those are the flaws i do commonly.i'm getting approximately seventy 5 % of the babies survives.

There is a fish disease called "dropsy" that causes your fish's kidneys to basically stop working, and they will retain water. This will make them swell up to the point that their scales will protrude, and it's almost always fatal. No one knows the cause, and there isn't a cure, although some fish antibiotics claim to treat it. I'm sorry you lost your fish :(
