The maintenance would be the same as for any tank, but with a few exceptions. Hex tanks are taller than wide, so this make cleaning the debris off the bottom and circulating air all the way down a little more difficult.

It doesn't hurt ot oversize a filter for these (a "normal" sized filter would be one that's rated to turn over 5-10 times the tank volume per hour), or to use both a power filter and undergravel or powerfilter and powerhead to add extra water circilation. If you would use an undergravel, I would power it with a reversible powerhead, so the water blows up through the gravel, rather than being pulled down - this decreases the need to pull the filter plate up and clean the gunk accumulated under it.

Other than that, it should just be a matter of weekly partial water changes of around 25% of the tank volume. Different websites will give different amounts, and there are no real rules set in stone - a lot has to do with the number and size of the fish in the tank, your filtration, and how heavily you feed.

Use a gravel vacuum to clean any debris on the top of the substrate, all the way to the bottom along the sides to the front where and debris is noticable below the gravel, and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the rest of the gravel - just keep switching sections each time you clean.
