A good elec fan will cool the engine better, also free up a few HP 5-15 HP gain depending on type of mech. fan you have now (clutch or flex).

The best elec fan I have found by far is the stock late 80's, early 90's ford taurus 3.8L v6 dual speed elec fan.. It's even better than the $200 black magic aftermarket elec fan.

Next would be the 4th gen F body LT/LS engine's elec fan.

The good OE ones like those are much better than the aftermarket ones.. Moves more air, and has a better shroud design.

When you remove the engine turned fan the motor gets quieter and reaches operating temp faster then you can hear the header leaks/rattles better. There are lots of good brands out there. The 305 2bbl engine or the high performance 302 camaro engine. I used to like the 327 300hp motor. Modern LS-2 6.0 liter in my GTO gets over 400hp and 25 miles a gallon. and the total weight is about 175 pounds less than your engine transmission even more if you have an automatic about 225 lbs less...

I put two of them on my 87 s 10. set one to push and one to pull and mounted one in front and one behind the radiator. being a small radiator, I used 10" fans, but depending on your application you should be able to work with a 14",or 16 single.
