I really think it all depends in where you live. Different economic areas will vary. I live in Southern California where everything to priced way too high so I'm not sure if this is a good comparison, but last week I hired a housekeeper to deep clean the floors, bathrooms, kitchen, etc ... and she was here from 9am to 2:30pm and charged me $ 125.00. She did an awesome job so I was happy to pay whatever she asked. I asked around and it seems like I got a decent deal for my area.
Whenever I have hired a housekeeper they have already had a preset price per hour. It's never been up to me to offer how much I was going to pay. Whoever you hire - if they are reputable - will tell you what they charge. If you are just hiring a friend to help them out or whatever ... then I'd call some local cleaning services and ask what they charge so you pay them fairly. You wouldn't have to pay them as much because they aren't a professional ... but cleaning someone's house isn't fun so I'd be sure to pay them enough to make it worth their while! =)

i had a 24/7 nanny/housekeeper when i was growing up.
i have someone come in 3 times a month now just for deep cleaning.
i pay her $15.00 an hour , and no $4.00 an hour isnt fair unless she's just cleaning out your dog's house lol

Surely you jest? The going rate today in even small town America is $10 an hour unless you are using slave labor and they will do a crappy don't care job for less than $7..paupers wages

I pay Tangie $35 a day, regardless of how much time she spends. (and that's cheap). Each day there are a list of duties, Mon - Fri. If I am having an event, I pay her additional money.

i don't have one, but i am one and that is very hard work cleaning other ppl's crap, so 4 dollarz an hour is re-dam-diculous. i give one set price after i go and look at the house and i never had an unhappy customer.

You should at least pay above minimum wage. Sheesh. They have to make money too! I do not have a house keeper. I honestly think it is a waste of money. Why pay someone to do something I can easily do myself?
