Gain power by letting the exhaust flow out of engine easier.. There's no set gain though. On a v8 engine you can see anywhere from 10-45 HP gain just from the headers. Most stock engines though will gain about 10-15 HP
Next you need to look at the exhaust system.. If you keep the stock Y pipe, compression bent pipes, poor flowing muffler, etc then your not really helping much.
re do the exhaust to flow better and you will gain another 15-20 HP
Now for the people that thinks headers will ALWAY leak and burn gaskets, and plug wires...
Use stock fel pro exhaust manifold gaskets, not the paper header gaskets that comes with your headers..
Use $10 copper or alum collector gaskets.
Spend another $15 on a set of wire looms to hold your plug wires nice, neat and in order.. It looks like crap when the wires are just thrown on the engine, plus you ruin the risk of burning them.. The looms will cure that prob.

They give you 5 to 10 horse power and a nice rumble sound if used with the right muffler. I would use Summit headers that fits your application, then I would purchase a Summit 2 1/2 inch system (part # SUM-680146). It comes with mufflers and tail pipes. For more info. call 1-800-230-3030. That is the # to Summit Racing Equipment. They will even send you a free catalog.

Headers will open up exhaust flow to a tuned back-pressure and give a slight horse-power increase. Adding headers will require you replace at least the Y'pipe under the car unless you have dual exhaust.
If you dont have dual exhaust, you will want to see what you need todo to install it and order that as well.
I would go with hooker headers and Y-Pipe then you wont have to go to the expense of dual catalytic converters.
Year One sells these, but you can also try the holley/hooker's website and find a distributor that is close to your location so you arent taken advantage of for shipping. -> http://www.holley.com/index.asp?division=Hooker

Headers will give you some added horsepower but only if you add high flow catalytic converters and high flowing mufflers, like Flowmasters or magnaflows..... I would go with what is called the "Shorty" headers.... they are shorter and easier to work with..... try Summit for headers.

Make noise blow header gaskets drag on the ground break off at the cyl head flange. And rattle at weird rpm's and make you think there is a rod bearing failure.
