Its the 'Star of Hope' which was wrecked in a storm in 1883. She was outward bound from Wilmington North Carolina USA with a cargo of raw cotton when she was caught in a WSW force 10 gale in the Mersey approaches. The crew of 9 abandoned ship and were taken on board the Crosby lightship.

The wreck is actually situated between Ainsdale beach and Formby Point

which southport, you wouldnt see a shipwreck from the end of the pier at the england southport, as you cant even see the sea, its beach for miles. Edited info: Well done niel, just looked at that, never seen it before, very interesting.

I'm afraid not but, if there was one, it must have been a long time ago, since Southport is quite a way from the sea these days.

Kris - why would there be a question about N.Carolina in UK questions and answers/Liverpool?

This would be a good time to pop in the Google Earth programme dated 2007. I've got one but, honestly, I'm
not inclined to quit the UK and return home this second.
