this nothing happening 47 year old guy who seems to want to downplay everyone,was telling me that i had no chance in something,when i know and others know that i am legitimately skilled in that field,and was making blasphemous comments about getting into a field i would never get into.It frustrates me because everyone knows that i have the ability in the particular thing i'm good at,and this guy just downplayed all of that when he knows absolutely nothing about it and he is a washed up guy who has never done anything with his life.(but downplays others)It's making me fume,what do i do about it?All i can do is vent.

DO NOT let any person throw you off your center! He's just the devil's advocate. Yes, vent. Then forget about it. Focus on what you know is true. He's nothing. Think of him as a roach and step on him. Flush him and all his stupidity. Some people are just like that. I can't even count the people who told me I'd never move to Jamaica and open a math clinic. But, guess what? Here I am! Hold on to your dream, make it come true, and don't let anyone tell you different. Laugh at him!

Very like this dude has ben browbeat, belittled, criticized and victimized all his life and unable to relate to anyone in a positive way. It is entirely possible that this mindset has ben indoctrinated into him from childhood until he knows no other way of relating to anyone It's very possible the reason for being obnoxious is seeking attention because he is attracted to you strange as it seems! Some people will settle for 'negative' attention rather than no attention at all.

you are right, all you can do is vent because someone like that is not going to change. It is obvious that he is insecure and makes himself feel better by putting others down. Just walk away from him and ignore him. He is not worth your time.

Well, I'm not going to start with the cheesy "You can do whatever you want to do if you put your mind do it" because I'm sure you know that already. I say you should stand up to him! Let him know that you can do whatever it is that you want to do and you can do it well! He has no right to say those things to you and to put you down like this. You can do it! I believe in you!!
