To give. Because in the process of giving, you receive something yourself -- the value of sharing with others what you have.

I don't know about "better" - I just know it's a great joy to give, especially if whatever you give is what the receiver wanted, or didn't know they wanted until they got it! Receiving is nice as a token of affection, but it hurts me that the giver has gone without something for the gift - and there's nothing I really want anyway. But I've certainly had some gifts I treasure - the greatest of which is simply love or affection. Which is what any gift is really about, isn't it.

It is always better to give than to receive. The best thing to give is love, because in giving it increases and that increase will be received by others who give back a similar increase.

'Tis better to trade. I like to give a good day's work and get a good day's pay. I like to love and to be loved. Not as alms, but as an exchange of values.
It always amazes me when people ask this question. If it's "better" to give than to receive, then what does that make of those who receive what you are giving?

Its all about balance. So there needs to be an element of both giving and receiving. After all, for someone to be able to give it requires someone else to receive.

I would rather give.... I like to give a gift that I have spent a lot of time and thought into and that I know the person will be so thrilled to receive it.... What gift would I like to receive... the gift of Time....

its easier to give because in recieving, its hard to expect people what theyre going to give you, then at the end of the day, you will only feel frustrated if ever they werent able to meet your expectations.
