Mars is just rising around 12:30 local time, so may be too close to the horizon to be seen. A couple of hours later, it will be high in the eastern sky, visible as a starlike point of light. It definitely won't be as big as the Moon; that's physically impossible because it's so far away. In fact the Moon is currently more than 200 times larger than Mars appears. You can easily see Mars with the naked eye, as it's one of the brightest objects in the sky, but you would need a telescope magnifying more than 200 times to see it as large as the Moon with the naked eye.

You don't need a telescope to see Mars. Its visible (to anyone willing to just look up at the night sky) almost all year.
Mars is one of the planets that even ancient peoples around the world could see (and they didn't have telescopes or binoculars).
If you go out after around 1:00 am local time and look in the eastern sky, you'll see Mars - its a fairly bright reddish pinpoint of light.
And it will be even a little brighter in December when its at "opposition", and will be bright in the southern sky for most of the night.

You can't. it's an e-mail hoax. Don't waste your time looking for Mars. Do go out and look at the sky though. It's always interesting.
