Just a few days ago I moved into my new place. Before I moved in my landlord told me that she would send her cleaning lady to clean my apartment and that she would have the carpets shampooed. When I moved in I realized the apartment hadn't been cleaned but since I didn't have another place to go I went ahead and moved in. That same day I talked to my landlord and she promised that her cleaning people would come and clean my place, this never happened. The night I moved in I noticed noises coming from the attic (I don't have access to the attic) and then I discovered some mice/rat droppings in one closet. I told my landlor and she promised to take care of this. Two weeks have past since and she hasn't done anything. I decided to clean the place myself and got some mice poison, so far I have found only two dead mice. I know I made a huge mistake when I went ahead and trusted my landlord and moved in, but is there anything someone in my situation can do to make her do what she promised?

Contact your local Health Dept & have them inspect your unit & show them the droppings, dead mice, etc. ALWAYS have in WRITING, anything your landlord/manager promises you. By law your landlord is responsible to rent to you an apartment/unit that is HABITABLE. That means free of vermon; plumbing, electric, etc. must be in working order and so on. Go online, to your state's website, for info on LANDLORD/TENANT RIGHTS.

Do you have a signed lease agreement? Did she sign anything about having things done? You cannot get verbal promises completed. She sounds like a typical landlord. promise you everything, and give you nothing. About all you can do is keep bugging her or bite the bullet and do it yourself. Probably won't get any better.

There are books you can get from the library and packets you can get from your local government center, on the rights and responsibilities of Landlords and tenants.
