im a cashier and i recently got trained, about a month ago. i was over about 8 dollars my first time on the register. i realize that was probably due to inexperience and me simply not being careful. but ever since that happened, i have been extremely careful with counting the money that customers give me and what i give them. however, i was under 20 dollars today and i dont uderstand how i could have been. will i get in trouble now that ive been over/under more than once?

depends on employer
however legally unless they can prove that YOU TOOK it they can not take it out of your check and I'm not saying or implying you did

Two things you need to do. Make sure no one else has access to your register and double count change you give back to customers. A business owner cannot stay in business by losing money everyday.

Very simple really, either you are not making correct change, or someone else has access to the register. You may not have to pay back any shortage, but you could very well be terminated if the trend continues. Good Luck!
