It will be slow to load the game. When playing it could be a bit slow but you may not notice the difference especially if you have large RAM.

Well, The problem you are going to run into with that setup is that data transfer speeds are significantly faster on an internally installed hd than an externally attached hd.

Whether this will affect your game play will depend on a number of other factors, but specifically how much disc access the game will perform while in game. If you have a lot of ram and the game caches everything in memory, you will have slightly slower load times, but no effect in-game.

However if the game had to read a lot of data from the hd while in progress, then you may notice slower game play on the inital load as well as in flight. Not having played the game, I can't really tell how it works, and therefore can only guess how this will affect you, but my guess is that it will only be noticeable if you have an OS with a high overhead, and not much ram.

Otherwise you should not be able to tell the difference.

It should work fine with your external. Just remember that a USB connection is slower that a firewire connection. Most games will work fine on an external. The only game i know of that doesn't work with an external is Splinter Cell: Double Agent. The sound doesn't work properly if it isn't installed on the "C" drive. That being said, Flight Sim should work fine.
