You can use any one you choose up to the original
limit for incandescent lights.
The limit is the heat produced not the light.
Tp match the old light outputs,
In general the light outputs are
Fluor..............Incand.
11W...............60W.
18W...............75W.
23W..............100W.

Don't use them; buy incandescent bulbs marked 'for fans.' The CFLs are not built to take the vibrations of a moving ceiling fan. Unfortunately, it looks like some well-intentioned but ignorant people and lawmakers are pushing for the eventual total elimination of incandescents. The wattage maximum is usually marked on one or more of the light sockets; it's also in the instructions that came with the fan.60-watt is the usual maximum.

I think a 24 watt flourecent bulb will be comparable to a 60 to 70 watt standard bulb. The packaging on the new energy saving bulbs will tell you what will be comparable.
