An ex-boyfriend of mine says he is getting a do-it-yourself divorce in PA rather than NYS where he and his wife reside as he says it only takes 6 months in PA vs a year in NYS and the cost is cheaper. Is this true or is he full of B.S.? Thank-you.

He is right in a way he can file where he lives but if the ex lives else where the paper will be sent to her .Another thing does that mean if you live in say New York city and you fly to Vegas to get married your marriage is only legal in Vegas,think about it.

Who can file for divorce in Pennsylvania?

If 1 of the spouses is not a resident of Pennsylvania, the filing spouse must have resided in Pennsylvania for 6 months prior to filing for divorce. A divorce may be filed for in any of the following counties:
# where the defendant resides;
# where the spouses both resided at the time of their separation;
# where the plaintiff (filing spouse) resides if the defendant is a non-resident of Pennsylvania.

If he doesn't live there and neither does his ex-wife, or if they weren't married there then this is most likely BS. To discourage people from shopping around for a quickie divorce, all states have minimum residency requirements before you can divorce there. This means that you must either live there for a minimum or been married there to use their divorce courts. Sorry, but he's full of bull :)

you will desire a legal professional. Thats the only way. do no longer defy the choose the outcomes could desire to get your babies taken far off from you. you will could desire to contest the order. the proper thank you to do it is to teach that it would be effective to the babies to make the flow to PA.
