I strongly dislike people who are born rich, still live at home with their parent(s), or have everything handed to them because they have no idea whats its like to suffer in the absence of money. I think its so noble to start off poor and become rich all by yourself, and the ones who were born with wealth will have no idea what that feels like. What are your thoughts on this?

The best thing that can happen to a person who begins with humble means and becomes rich is that he gets a perspective of how things stand in the world and what it means to work hard. The fruit of success is sweeter. He has a heart that can accommodate many things including benevolence.

While people who are born rich won't know how it feels to be self-made, they should know (or should be taught, if they don't know) that they are very privledged and should be using their wealth for good. I'm not saying it's wrong to purchase something expensive every now and then for yourself, but at the very least, buy dinner for a friend or donate to charity. Plus, I'm of the belief that everyone should have some sort of working experience before college, regardless of how much money you have. Just because someone has money doesn't excuse them from experiencing reality. It is the rich people that think that they are better than a minimum wage job or too important to donate some money that I cannot stand.

As for me, well. My dad is a self-made man, and my mom's family has always been wealthy, so although I did grow up to a family of money, I was always told to use it to help others, and of course, I had to work in order lo appreciate the value of a dollar. I have no idea what it feels like to suffer from not having much money (oh, but I will next year when I'm on my own in terms of paying for grad school and an apartment), but I know enough to consider the feelings of those who are.

It's silly to like or dislike people based on something they have no control over like what family they were born into.
I also think there is absolutely nothing "noble" being born poor and becoming rich, ambitious maybe but not "noble". It has nothing whatsoever to do with the moral character of a person.
I think what you're really dealing with is envy. For what it's worth I was born poor. I'm also relatively poor right now because my husband and I are both in school.
Anything you want in life you can get. If you want to be rich you can be. You just need to decide how far you're willing to go to get there. How hard you're willing to work and how much of your personal life you're willing to sacrifice until you get there. You're not going to get anywhere sitting around and being jealous of rich people. It's just going to make you self rightous.
One last thing, I think viewing a lack of money as suffering is a matter of perspective. I view it as strengthening. In this country very few people have so little money that they are suffering, like starving or truly living on the streets. Maybe instead of feeling sorry for yourself you could help a couple of those people out though....it might help put things in perspective for you.

Right now I am poor and time rich and I think that is the best way because you get to do anything useless and get to spend it however you like. When you are money rich and time poor you get to have everything but do not get time to really enjoy it. Money makes you value less anything that is not materialistic and not having money really makes you appreciate what you have and the people that are around you.

It's SO much better to go from poor to rich. It's really not that difficult. It just takes a long time to save an invest it properly. If you do that, you can be rich. But the people that start off rich don't have to put up with that initial struggle.

I don't have a problem with either although it is true that the one who inherited wealth could have a bad attitude b/c he/she doesn't know the hardship that comes with making your own money. The real issue is what is done with the money one has, not how the money is obtained. It is not a person's fault if they inherit the money....just lucky people!!! It also doesn't mean that they don't value work or that they don't know what it is to grow up poor.

I don't really see it as any of my business whether someone got their money by earning it or by inheritance. I prefer to get to know a person before I pre-judge them.
