For everyone who lives in the Northern United States, what do you think of those in the Southern United States?
(Taking a poll for my Social Studies project)
And vise versa.

I was trying to be as generic as possible so I could receive many different types of answers.
I understand you didn't mean to offend me, but I don't understand how I 'don't have a sense of reality' because I didn't clarify on what I was asking. Thanks for your opinion! Hope you all have a great Sunday!
(Oh! And I was born in South Carolina, and I was raised in Georgia. So, I haven't been to any of the Northern states-- unless you consider Virginia up north-- so I don't have a definite opinion.)

Northerners generally think Southerners are backwards-thinking, uneducated, speak with silly accents, and are just plain dumb.
Southerners generally think Northerners can't cook to save their lives, are boring, speak with silly accents, and are un-athletic.
As someone who has been both, I can say neither group is right. The stereotypes are altogether mistaken. I've met rednecks both in the far north and in the south and I've met intelligent people in both places.

Both northerners and southerners are mostly self involved and busy and don't bother with people they don't know. Southerners are not more friendly and they're often quickly intimidated to someone they perceive as different and they don't talk to someone who seems like that, while northerners don't care to talk in the first place. But either way, it comes out being the same social situation. It can be difficult to engage with new people.

Being from PA and having lived in SC and CA. I fine that the accents are a difference along with the slang for some words. People in the south tend too be more polite and friendlier than in the North or west . In the North we tend to be on the go all the time and don't take the time too even say hi to a neighbor. In CA it's more of a free spirit in things.
But don't be fooled no matter where I have been the stars and stripes fly with the same pride........

^North here - I believe Southerners are basically like us with a different accent.
That's now, but if you were talking about the 1600's that would be a whole other story.
I did have a Southern boss once, he was waiting for the South to rise again, I hope he is in the minority.

I rarely think about southerners much. I really dont see much of a difference except southerners tend to make more of a big deal about the north/south "divide" than northerners. Now I dont really like the NE because its a bit too liberal for my taste but I do enjoy the great lakes region because its not stereotypical midwest and people tend to have more family values.

I live in Chicago. I think of the South as having rich culture and rich history. I think it also has a dark history (slavery and civil rights) that can be used as teaching tools to all of the USA. I think people are more polite and life less hectic in the South. I think there is not as much industry in the south (with a few exceptions such as Atlanta) and that creates states with lower socio-economic strata than in the North and therefore poverty per capita may be more rampant.
All in all I think the Southern US is a wonderful place and I love to visit there when I can.

I have family that live i nthe South and i've been i nthe south. There no differnet than Northerners. Only thing is they may look at things with a slightly different perspcetive than us Northerners.
Michiganders (particularly us Detroiters) are down to Earth too and I think that upsets a lot of the country, but we can have a nice side if you treat us with the same respect (which the country doesn't) and if you don't like us, **** off.
Northern Detroiter and Michigander and proud of it.

Well, where I come from, we don't really talk about Southerners too much. I mean, the only things we assumed were that there were a bunch of sticky areas where the Klan hung out, and that they had a thick accent, and I think I heard one person say they dressed funny.
When I moved to the south for college, I found them to be a bit nicer, although on many occasions I got: "You're from New York? I bet you think you're so great. Blah, blah..." What I will say, though, is that the people tend to be a bit more sheltered, and a bit more provincial. Many I know have never owned a passport, and consider going from NC to DC a big trip. Most everyone here is either white or black, and you tend not to run into other cultures. And if you say you want to leave the country for whatever reason, it's always: "what? why?"
And lastly, I've noticed that their food is often quite greasy and fatty, especially that soul food business, and many tend to be overweight because of it. It sounds horrible, but when my dad came down to my university for orientation, the first thing out of his mouth was "Why is everyone so fat?" And when I got back from Argentina, I found myself asking the same question.

Ok
Many white southerners dislike white northerners because they are Yankees many are still living like the civil war era, think that white northerners are fast pace city boys that are to weak(physically) to live in the country
White northerners think all southerners are ignorant and slow, and live in gullies(this is true to some white southerners)
black northerners think black southerners are country bamas, with boring lives.
black southerners think black northerners are fast pace city folk that are afraid of the great outdoors and wild animals and bugs.
I personally know that some southern men(well black men I know from the country) are tougher and more stout, and aren't afraid of any bugs, animals or great outdoors, They're also stronger physically. Unlike city boys who are so wimpish. If they had to live outdoors without comforts of life they'd probably fall out and die LOL!
