Why is everyone blaming China rather than the manufacturing companies, who most probably bribed and blackmailed officials for better profit?

It seems that Multinational Companies are becoming more powerful than nation states.

Ditto, the manufacturers are solely responsible, they don't give a $hit as long as they are pulling in the profits regardless.

People are blaming the Chinese because the manufacturing companies are actually chinese owned. They act as subcontractors to US companies, but they are under Chinese authorities. When all those animals got sick from bad pet food, it was there regulating powers that should have been monitoring the quality of there products. When the US sells beef to Japan, it is our job to make sure that it doesn't have mad cow disease or anything. We import so much stuff from China it would be impossible to check the quality of everything, and they would be angry if we did. They need to watch out, because too many more things like that, and industry in America might make a comeback.

Because China is responsible for the manufacturing sectors behavior. But also, China has made it very enticing through weak environmental laws for companies to set up shop there. Unlike in the USA or Europe, their is very little to none, consumer protection laws.

The quality problems in China come from small firms working on contract, not plants owned by multinational firms. That being said, the large firms should have their own quality control people on the shop floor of the firms they outsource to. There's no point in just waiting for Chinese regulators to do their jobs, the firms that want to take advantage of manufacturing in China need to be proactive.

Also don't forget the people who are buying the stuff, the only reason they're doing it is because they're making huge amounts of money at it, but if people realized it was in their best interest
and clamp their wallets shut and said loud and clear that they weren't going to be going to the store until this nonsense stopped then the companies would have no choice but to change and bring manufacturing back to the US and then patronize those businesses when they do, even if it costs a little more.

I agree that anger is being vented in the wrong direction. While Chinese did allow for this type of behavior to occur, I feel that the retailers such as Wal-Mart, K Mart, etc. have a great deal of responsibility to share in addition to Federal officials who appeared to be asleep at the switch again.

The big box stores, if this goes unabated, will continue to force manufacturers to find ways to cut corners in order to maintain their own margins. The Federal government has to take the appropriate steps to shore up this oversight in its monitoring efforts.

But ultimately the responsibility lies with the consumer. It you are a patron of Wal-Mart and K Mart you are funding their business practices which lead to the manufacturer's cost cutting in order to beat their competitors.

For profit, that is all. And don't forget it was Richard Millhouse Nixon(R) that officially recognized China and gave them "MOST favored nation" status for exploitation of their slave labor force to benefit the big American Corporations.

Mattel, bribes Chinese officials, to allow lead paint to be used at a Chinese owned factory in China.

Just so Mattel could issue a voluntary recall of lead contaminated toys.

Because the Chinese government has refused to enact regulatory oversight and has cut deals with the Bush administration on behalf of those companies (who are also to blame, don't get me wrong) to evade US inspections and standards.
