They are a dangerous distraction. They had to be baned here unless you can aford a government issued one and get the land owners permission. The memorials cause other accidents. Some memorial.

Roadside Memorials are not close enough to cause anyone danger, as for any I've seen in Missouri.
The memorials are generally at least 10' or more off the shoulder and nicely kept up, consist of a small wooden cross and/or artificial/real flowers.
Personally, the idea is a reminder to drive defensively.

Anything done in excess can be dangerous except maybe love. This is the reasoning behind the memorials. Tastefulness could be a factor as well. If enough of the memorials are done tastefully like say a little flower garden it wouldn't seem so morbid would it?

Tacky? Maybe. Nuisance to road cleanup crews? Yes. Morbid and/or dangerous? No.
But they are, sometimes, a way for those that are left in this world to cope w/ the death of someone they cared for.
Some are placed in the hope, false hope actually, that the memorial will cause others to drive more carefully. In this sense it is sorta' like the "Baby On Board" signs people hang in their car windows.

Actually, I do. I can see maybe putting a flower or something for one day and then taking it down, but lately it is like a fad and people are leaving things all over the highway. It is distracting and getting ugly.

no i don't. i think they are a reminder for us to drive safely, that life is precious. i don't rubber neck them, but i glance and say a quick prayer. i think it is a way for the families and loved ones to keep a reminder that the person they loved is gone but not forgotten. hasn't he ever lost a loved one in a tragic accident? i hope not. i have and maybe i look at the memorials differently than him.

Nope. If you do the "Gawking" thing, its dangerous for everyone. If you notice it out of the corner of your eye, say a prayer, and keep driving.

I agree. I don't understand why someone would want to remember the place where their loved one died in a horrible crash. I think a nice memorial garden would be preferable.

No, it is a reminder to all who sees it that it could have been them. Drive responsibly and don't take any thing for granted.
